SPARTANBURG PROJECT MANAGER

The nonprofit, nongovernmental United States Healthful Food Council (USHFC) is searching for a passionate, self-motivated individual to serve as Project Manager and oversee a 12month pilot project involving healthy eating and nutrition at public schools. The part time position is based in Spartanburg, SC. Primary responsibilities include working directly with foodservice operations to improve school menu offerings and engage students, staff, teachers and administrators around healthier eating choices. This position presents an opportunity to work with a growing nationwide organization committed to producing change in practices in the foodservice industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working alongside school foodservice managers to identify and implement best practices in nutrition and sustainability.
  • Assisting in the modification of certification criteria for more healthful and sustainable food options and practices the K-12 environment.
  • Engaging the local nutrition and culinary community to support school foodservice operations.
  • Developing effective promotional and educational strategies for K-12 audience.
  • Conducting surveys and implementing an evaluation plan to determine efficacy of promotional strategies.
  • Communicating and presenting progress of pilot project to funder(s) and stakeholder(s).
  • Increasing awareness of the organization/project and engaging local and national media.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, nutrition, communications or related field, and work experience in school environment or student nutrition is required. Registered Dietitian (RD) experience or having worked with RDs a plus. Education and experience in nutrition and health is highly desirable, but only a passion for the subject is needed. Other desirable qualifications include:

  • Extensive project management experience including balancing activities and resources with project objectives and deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of school or institutional foodservice operations.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical and business concepts and express them clearly.
  • Flexible to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously within compressed timeframes.
  • Outgoing personality that enjoys engaging the public and cultivating relationships.
  • Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational skills that include project budgeting, documentation and tracking.
  • Independent and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Salary and Benefits: Hourly rate in the range of $15-20/hr and contingent on the experience and success of the chosen individual. Part time position averaging 20 hours per week with no benefits.

CONTRACT REGISTERED DIETITIAN 

Summary of Position: The United States Healthful Food Council (USHFC) is seeking contract RDs for foodservice certifications and site visits in Memphis, TN and southern CA.

Expanding non-profit organization is looking for RDs with foodservice experience to work with us to conduct onsite visits and reward restaurants and other foodservice facilities for best practices in nutrition and sustainability.

EAT REAL PROJECT MANAGER

Summary of Position:  The nonprofit, nongovernmental United States Healthful Food Council (USHFC) is searching for a passionate, self-motivated individual to serve as Project Manager, marketing an innovative healthy eating certification program. The position can be based either in Memphis or Nashville, Tennessee. Primary responsibilities include developing and executing a program to engage a network of chefs, restaurants and other foodservice operators, as well as building community partnerships around nutrition, sustainability and healthy living. This position presents an opportunity to work with a growing nationwide organization committed to producing change in practices in the restaurant and foodservice industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engaging and recruiting foodservice operators and dining establishments to participate in the project’s certification initiatives.
  • Working with local nutrition professionals to engage and support foodservice operators.
  • Developing effective marketing strategies that support project objectives.
  • Increasing awareness of the organization, writing press releases and engaging local media.
  • Maintaining and growing the Eat REAL Tennessee Facebook page using educational and industry-related content.
  • Organizing and participating in community events to educate consumers on healthy eating.
  • Assisting with the coordination of government relations/communications with local and state agencies.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications or related field, and work experience in marketing and/or communications is required.  Education and experience in nutrition and health is highly desirable, but only a passion for the subject is needed.  Other desirable qualifications include:

  • Extensive experience in developing, implementing and maintaining marketing strategies to meet organizational objectives.
  • Strong understanding of restaurant consumer and market dynamics and requirements.
  • Proven ability to oversee marketing, media and promotional activities in the food or nutrition industry.
  • Thorough understanding of branding principles and tactics through multimedia.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical and business concepts and express them clearly.
  • Flexible to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously within compressed timeframes.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 

Summary of Position:  The United States Healthful Food Council (USHFC) is searching for a self-motivated, entrepreneurial individual that is passionate about the importance of healthful eating to serve as the Executive Director.  The position will be based in Washington, DC and the responsibilities will vary from grant writing, government relations, recruiting the Panel of Experts, hiring staff, creating partnerships and developing a network of participating food service providers.  This position presents an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new organization that has the potential to produce a nationwide change in attitude and behavior in the restaurant and food industry.  The Executive Director reports to the President.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Increasing public awareness of the organization and serving as its main spokesperson and advocate
  • Assembling the Panel of Experts to develop the certification criteria
  • Developing and implementing the programs and policies
  • Developing and monitoring an annual budget that reflects the strategic goals of the agency
  • Implementing the financial and administrative policies of the organization
  • Generating revenue through contracts and grant development
  • Raising charitable contributions from individuals, corporations and foundation
  • Developing corporate and other participation
  • Providing leadership and guidance to talented staff and consultants

Preferred Qualifications: Most importantly, the individual must be comfortable and excel in an entrepreneurial environment, which has less structure and stability than a mature organization.  Education and experience in nutrition and health is highly desirable, but a passion for the subject matter is necessary.  Other skills include:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and articulate in a variety of situations
  • The capacity to articulate a clear, collective vision and embody that vision through words and actions
  • A proven ability to secure financial support, including major gifts
  • Ability to serve as the organization’s highly visible public face through attendance at meetings and conferences and strong, respectful relationships with all stakeholders

Salary and Benefits:  Highly contingent on the experience and success of the chosen individual.   In addition, the compensation will evolve as the organization matures.

INTERNSHIP

The USHFC is seeking to fill a part-time, temporary Intern position to work at the USHFC.  The Intern is responsible for a wide range of activities associated with the USHFC’s research, events and other initiatives.  This position is unpaid, but offers a wealth of experience and connections to be made in Washington, DC.  The Intern reports to the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to staff
  • Research and prepare reports on industry sector activity
  • Develop messages and event promotion via social media
  • Assist with drafting monthly newsletters
  • Research and respond to requests for information and other inquires
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for the USHFC events
  • Other duties, as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background and strong interest in health, nutrition and foodservice sectors a plus
  • Excellent writing and research skills
  • Superb attention to detail is critical
  • Efficient time management skills
  • Microsoft Office experience (Word/Excel/Access/Internet/Explorer/Outlook)
  • Experience with publications or newsletters
